5 Tips to Really Motivate Your Team

As a leader in your business, you’re more determined than ever to reach your goals – but can you be sure your workforce is feeling the same way? You may not know it, but some of them may be beginning to struggle. Here are 5 tips to help you motivate your team.

  1. Treat them as individuals

It doesn’t take much for an employee to feel isolated or unappreciated at work. We all need reassurance from time to time to know that we are headed in the right direction, and work is no different. Offer personal coaching to each member of the team, and always try to appear approachable should anyone need help. It’s this sort of attention that stops panic or a feeling of being unappreciated from setting in.

  1. Trust them

As employees improve and grow, it’s important to offer them a little of your trust, and give them a little more responsibility. Ask for their opinion on what can be done better, and what would help them to improve their performance. To leave your employees stagnating with the same mundane chores is a sure-fire way to encourage them to look elsewhere. Empower them instead.

  1. Offer Incentives

Incentives can be extremely motivational without having to break the bank. Let your employees leave a little earlier on a Friday or offer an extra paid day of holiday after a difficult period. Even the little things make a difference, like encouraging a bit of fun during lunchbreaks. A bit of Guitar Hero at lunch goes a long way.

  1. Set an example

As a leader, employees will be looking to you to show them the way. Treat them how you would wish to be treated, set the tone & work ethic, and lead by example. By working hard and remaining optimistic, your positivity will rub off on them.

  1. Address the problems

Negative issues in the office are not to be ignored. Even if you cannot eradicate the core issue, every problem must be acknowledged and addressed in some form. If you ignore your employees’ pain points, it’s only going to irritate them more and more with each passing week. Show them that you’re listening and you’ll prove to them you care.

As a leader, you’re always going to have your work cut out – but an efficient and content workforce will make your job simpler. Keep your team motivated and happy, and they’ll return the favour with exceptional work.
