How the Grinch Stole Business

When it comes to business, there is a thing or two we could learn from Dr Seuss’s Christmas classic character, the Grinch. Although not the most likely role model, what with his plan to sabotage the festive holiday and his refusal to follow rules, there is no denying that many of his qualities would go a long way in business. Here are 5 ways the Grinch stole business:

1.  By being decisive & having set goals

With his stubborn attitude towards following orders and obeying rules, the Grinch certainly knows his own mind. When it comes to making decisions, he knows what he wants and how he is going to achieve his goals. He takes control of situations and acts upon his own initiative; all of which are great leadership skills.

2.  By being resourceful

The Grinch is extraordinarily resourceful, particularly in times of need. His ability to find new ways of approaching dilemmas, or getting himself out of trouble to avoid further conflict is a skill we all need to adopt. Reach out to your colleagues for help and support, be proactive and don’t be afraid to fail – the Grinch never stops trying!

3.  By being confident

Being confident is the Grinch’s greatest strength, and confidence goes a long way in business. Even when you don’t necessarily feel confident when it comes to pitching ideas, or confident in your ability to produce the work, believe in yourself and others will believe in you too.

4.  By being imaginative

Using your imagination and thinking outside of the box can really help to make your business stand out. Max, the Grinch’s pet dog, is not a reindeer, but that does not stop the Grinch from using Max to accomplish his goals. So, use a little imagination – it may just solve your problems.

5.  And lastly, by being authentic

Authenticity is key to business. If you are building a brand, or marketing your business in a busy, competitive market, being authentic helps to sell your USP. Although the Grinch uses his authenticity as an excuse for his bad behaviour, he does eventually soften, without losing sight of who he is. Being honest and transparent with your customers is the best way to engage and grow a business.

So, don’t be afraid to be bold, confident and a little bit mad – be a Grinch this Christmas!
